OMPHALIC MUSING
Do a search on Adam and Eve and belly buttons and you'll find near universal commentary that, being the first of the Adamic race, they had none.
That is incorrect.
In Genesis 2:7, God "forms" Adam of the dust of the ground. Form is Strong's number 3335, meaning to mould into a form, especially as a potter.
When a potter has finished forming his vase, what is the last thing he does? He detaches it from the wheel. So I ask, since God formed Adam from the ground, at what point was Adam connected to the ground before God disconnected him?
While you ponder that, let's look at Eve.
In Genesis 2:22, God took one of Adam's "ribs" and "made" Eve. Strong's 6763, from a root word 6760, rib should be translated "curve"; God took the curve from Adam. Made is Strong's 1129, to build (literally and figuratively), the only place in Genesis this word is used and translated made.
It is a fair assumption that the "curve" can refer to the curve of the DNA helix, and that Eve was made (built/formed) in the same way as Adam, utilizing his X chromosome and doubling it (replacing Adam's Y chromosome) to create a female.
So I ask again, at what point was Eve connected before detachment from the ground?
And for a second witness, in a negative way, it should be noted that the Scriptures never mention a lack of navels in Adam and Eve. Surely such a difference from all succeeding generations would be noticed and reported.
Given the method of formation, necessitating a detachment point, and the lack of mention of missing belly buttons, I conclude that Adam and Eve did indeed have navels.
