MATTER AND ENERGY, DARKLY
There is no better evidence of the Religion of Science than Dark Matter and Dark Energy.
If the Big Bang was real, there are 3 possible outcomes: an Open Universe, where the speed of the expansion is so great that it will continue to expand forever; a Closed Universe, where the amount of "stuff" is large enough that gravity slows it to a stop and causes it to contract to a singularity; and a Static Universe (highly unlikely) where it expands to a point of equilibrium and neither expands nor contracts after that.
When scientists calculated the speed of expansion and looked at the amount of "stuff", they found only 10% of the "stuff" needed to close the universe.
One would think they'd have made the rational assumption that the Universe is Open, barring further evidence.
But if you are an Atheist, an Open Universe is anathema to your religion. After all, if the Universe came to be and will expand forever (or end in a Static state), the Theists will point to that Big Bang and say "God did that." And today, many "scientists" are, if not Atheists, then hostile to religion in any form.
So the search was on to find a way to Close the Universe. Then the Big Bang would be one of a series of Big Bangs that banged, expanded, contracted back into a singularity, and banged again. No god needed.
So they coined Dark Matter. What is Dark Matter? Funny you should ask. Nobody knows what it is made of, it is not visible to any of the spectrums we can "see"; not visible light, not infrared, not ultraviolet, not any of the electro-magnetic spectrum. And we cannot detect it directly in any manner. But there should be enough, they claimed, to Close the Universe.
Then they made an error. Someone had the thought that, being Matter, it must have a gravitational effect on other Matter, of any type. So they started to look for the "effects" of Dark Matter, and they found it here and there and almost everywhere, in the shapes of galaxies and the "bending" of light into "gravitational lenses" and anywhere else they wanted to find a hint of it.
Then they added up all this Dark Matter and, Lo!. . .well, no. They had too little to Close the Universe. Much, much too little. Like only 30% of what they needed.
So what's an Atheistic Scientist to do? Well, how about coin Dark Energy? What's that, you ask? It has the same characteristics as Dark Matter, only undetectable by any 'effects" because Energy just sits there, doing nothing, bothering no-one, until it gets used somehow.
So they filled the Universe will Dark Energy, and now, Lo!, the Universe is Closed. Fact!
Not really, of course. Both Dark Matter and Dark Energy are accepted on faith, dogmatically. There is no evidence of their existence unless you accept the "effects" of Dark Matter, and there has been nothing attributed to it that cannot be explained by conventional physics. You do not need Dark Matter.
Unless you are an Atheist.
Science starts with observation. If you ignore what is observed because you wish another reality, you have abandoned Science for the realm of Religion. That so many "Scientists" today, in many fields, accept such chimeras and promote them as factual is a scandal.
